i certintly understand u'r point of view...it is undoubtably a hot button issue/term, which is exactly is suspect why some insist on using it; i've noticed w/in our community their tend to be a larger # of shit disturbers (than in society in general), i.e. that AIDS protest group that shut down the Golden Gate Bridge for example. At times this has botherd me more than at other times; what can one do? isn't it better we have a large tent (so to speak) which along with comes the need for all to be as accepting of others as we'd like, would have liked, them to be accepting of us??

After all, over all just in my short time (1978) as a member of the gay/homo/queer/GLBT community we have come a very long way in a relatevly short time span...e.g. the term 'gay marriage' would have been unthinkable to be conversing in '78.

I totally agree with you. I find the term to have a derogatory connotation and to be personally offensive when I hear it. Indeed, it is not unlike the other slurs you compared it to.
